Tapas is a term from the Indian religions. It stands for the power of hot urge, for ardour and heat in the form of self-control as devotion to God. Tapas also has to do with creation. Through tapas, the Vedic deity of Hinduism, Prajāpati, brought the world into existence. But tapas, is also a form of „brooding“ and the title of the painting refers to this, meaning both the natural, physical „brooding“ of a bird/chicken (clutch of eggs) and the intellectual „brooding“ in the form of incubating ideas or thinking.
Tapas ist ein Begriff aus den indischen Religionen. Es steht für die Macht des heißen Dranges, für Glut und Hitze in Form von Selbstbeherrschung als Hingabe zu Gott. Tapas hat auch mit der Schöpfung zu tun. Durch Tapas brachte die vedische Gottheit des Hinduismus, Prajāpati, die Welt ins Dasein. Tapas, ist aber auch eine Form des „Brütens“ und der Titel des Bildes bezieht sich darauf, und meint sowohl die natürliche, körperliche „Brut“ eines Vogels/Huhns (Gelege mit Eiern) als auch die intellektuelle „Brut“ in Form des Ausbrütens von Ideen oder des Nachdenkens.
