A loop is a ribbon knotted in a round or elongated shape, usually made of fabric or leather.This ribbon is often used as a handle for holding or carrying. A wide variety of materials can be used. Ox leather, for example, is almost untearable. Holding on to a loop, pulling a belt through a loop… . The loop shown in this picture seems to hold nothing. The yellow ribbon, which is called a loop here, gives the impression of floating on the picture surface. The function of holding on, of carrying the heavy, the unbreakable, is counteracted by the light, almost white ground and the colour yellow, in its symbolism a sign of light, a ribbon that runs out of the picture in a cut form.
Eine Schlaufe ist ein in runder oder länglicher Form geknotetes Band, meist aus Stoff oder Leder. Oft dient dieses Band als Griff zum Festhalten oder Tragen. Es können die unterschiedlichsten Materialien zum Einsatz kommen. Ochsenleder zum Beispiel ist fast unzerreißbar. An einer Schlaufe festhalten, einen Gürtel durch eine Schlaufe ziehen… . Die Schlaufe, die in diesem Bild dargestellt ist, scheint nichts zu halten. Das gelbe Band, welches hier als Schlaufe bezeichnet wird, erweckt den Eindruck auf der Bildfläche zu schweben. Die Funktion des Festhaltens, des Tragens von Schwerem, des Unzerreißbaren, wird konterkariert durch den hellen, fast weißen Grund und der Farbe Gelb, in ihrer Symbolik ein Zeichen des Lichts, einem Band dass in angeschnittener Form, aus dem Bild herausläuft.
